We all want to live in a clean home, but we don't want to have to spend a lot of money and time.

Go down the cleaning supply aisle in any store and you will see tons of products for cleaning.

You can get products that clean windows, dishes, floors, bathrooms, kitchen, etc. If you were to get all the products to clean your home, you would have to spend a lot of money and then find someplace to store all those items.

The truth be told, you don't have to spend a lot of money and buy all kinds of different cleaners to clean your home.

Cheap Cleaning Tips for Windows and Mirrors

  • Wash Window
    To wash windows, use an equal mixture of white distilled vinegar and warm water. Dry windows with a soft cloth, crumpled newspaper or a squeegee.


  • All Purpose Window Cleaner
    In a gallon container (milk jug), pour in 1/2 cup ammonia and 2 cups rubbing alcohol. Then fill with water leaving room for 1 teaspoon of dishwasher liquid soap. After mixing solution, it's ready for cleaning windows.


  • Remove Hairspray from Mirrors
    To remove hair spray from a mirror, dampen soft cloth with a little rubbing alcohol.


  • Cheap Cleaning Tips for Upholstered Furniture

  • Clean Upholstered Furniture
    Use a mixture of a little white distilled vinegar, liquid dishwashing soap and water to make a mild upholsery cleaner. Be sure to first test on a hidden area.

  • Ways to Remove Mold
    In a spray bottle, combine 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil and 2 cups of water. Shake and spray on problem area.

    Tea tree oil can be purhased at health food stores. It is expensive, but a little goes a long way. Tea tree oil has a strong scent that will dissipate in a few days.


  • OR

    In a spray bottle, combine 20 drops of citrus seed extract and 2 cups of water. Shake and spray on problem area.

    Citrus seed extract is odorless and can be purchased at health food stores.

  • Prevent Mold
    To prevent mold, make sure rooms are well ventilated and exterior walls are properly insulated.


  • Cheap Cleaning Tips for Floors

  • No-Wax Floors
    For washing no-wax floors, add 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar to a bucket of warm water.


  • Deodorize Carpet
    To freshen your home and deodorize carpet, sprinkle baking soda on carpet. Let baking soda sit on carpet for approximately 30 minutes, then vacuum.


  • Remove Black Heel Marks on Vinyl Floors
    To remove those black heal marks on your vinyl floors, sprinkle baking soda on mark, then use a wet cloth or sponge to wipe off the black mark.


  • Carpet Stains
    For non-oily stains, make a mixture of 1 teaspoon of liquid detergent and 1 teaspoon of white distilled vinegar and 2 cups of water. Apply mixture to stain with a soft brush or towel and rub gently. Rinse with clean water using a moist towel, then blot dry. Repeat this process on tough stains. Use a hair dryer to dry area completely.


  • Cheap Cleaning Tips for Bathrooms

  • Prevent Mold and Mildew on Shower Curtains
    With washable shower curtains, soak them in your washer with 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup salt. Be sure the salt is completely dissolved before adding the shower curtain. If doing more than one shower curtain be sure colors are compatible or do in separate washings.


  • Unclog Drain
    Drop 4 Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain. Then pour 1 cup white vinegar down the drain. After approximately 10 minutes, flush with boiling water.
    Doing this on a regular basis will help keep the drain clear.


  • OR

    Pour 1 cup of baking soda followed by 1 cup white distilled vinegar in clogged sink. After fizzing, flush with water. For more stubborn clogs, use more than 1 cup of baking soda.

  • Clean Toilet
    Put 2 Alka Seltzer tablets in the toilet bowl. After water stops fizzing, brush with toilet bowl brush. The result will be a clean, shiny and deodoized toilet.


  • Cheap Cleaning Tips for Kitchens

  • Clean and Deodorize Garbage Disposal
    Fill an ice tray with 1 cup vinegar and enough water to fill tray. Then place ice tray in freezer. When mixture has frozen, remove a couple of the cubes and run them through your garbage disposal. Flush the garbage disposal with cool water. Be sure to clearly label unused cubes and save for future use. A tip for making mixture; fill ice tray with water, pour water into bowl. Remove 1 cup of water and discard. Now add 1 cup of vinegar. Pour contents of bowl into ice tray. This method will ensure an even mixture.


  • Deodorize Drains
    Pour 1 cup white distilled vinegar down the drain. Let is stand of 30 minutes, then flush with water. This works best if done once a week.


  • Clean Microwave
    Boil a mixture of 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar and 1 cup water. Then use soft cloth to wipe down microwave. This mixture will loosen food splatters as well as deodorize your microwave.


  • Clean Cutting Boards
    Use full strength white distilled vinegar to wash cutting board. This will loosen food, deodorize and sanitize your cutting board.


  • Clean water spots from Stainless Steel
    Use a dampened clean cloth with white distilled vinegar to wipe off water spots on stainless steel fixtures and appliances.


  • Clean Glass Baking Dishes
    To clean burned on food off your glass baking dishes, soak dish in hot water with 3 Alka Selter tablets. Your glass baking dish will look brand new again.


  • Clean Refrigerator
    Use a mixture of equal parts of vinegar and water to wash down refrigerator. This will clean, deodorize, and help prevent mildew. For stubborn areas, increase the amount of vinegar.


  • Deodorize Refrigerator
    Place 1 cup of water with 1 tablet of Alka Seltzer in your refrigerator. Leave this in refrigerator for approximately 30 minutes. If smell is not totally gone, wash refrigerator with mixture of water and Alka Seltzer.

  • Stove
    To make cleaning your stove easier, periodically rub it with car wax.


  • Clean Sink
    Instead of using cleanser to clean your sink use baking soda. Not only will you clean your sink, you will also deodorize it.


  • Clean Automatic Coffee Maker
    To remove mineral deposits, fill the resevoir with white distilled vinegar and run it through brewing cycle. Be sure to rinse thoroughly with water.


  • Unclog Drain
    Drop 4 Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain. Then pour 1 cup white vinegar down the drain. After approximately 10 minutes, flush with boiling water.

  • Cheap Cleaning Tips for Laundry

  • Fabric Softener
    Instead of using commercial fabric softeners, add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle.


  • Remove Soap Scum in Washing Machine
    To clean soap scum from washing machine, add 1/2 cup white vinegar to washer and run through a cycle.


  • Remove Ink from Clothing
    Spray the ink spot on washable clothing with hairspray then wash.


  • Remove Ring Around the Collar
    To remove ring around the collar on washable clothing, pre-treat it using a little shampoo worked in with an old toothbrush. Then wash as usual.


  • Remove Dingy Yellow Color from White Cotton Items
    Soak white cotton items in 1 gallon of water with 2 Alka Seltzer tablets. Then hang those items in the sun to dry. Your white cotton items will now be white and bright.

  • Cheap Cleaning Tips for Cleaning Walls, Woodwork and Blinds

  • Wall
    In a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water add 1 cup amonia, 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar, 1/4 cup baking soda. Using a clean sponge or soft cloth, wash down the walls, then rinse with clean water. This solution will not dull your paint finish or leave streaks. It will easily remove dirt and grime.


  • Woodwork
    In a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water add 1 cup amonia, 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar, 1/4 cup baking soda. Using a clean sponge or soft cloth, wash down woodwork, then rinse with clean water. It will easily remove dirt and grime without dulling paint finish.


  • Venetian Blinds
    In a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water add 1 cup amonia, 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar, 1/4 cup baking soda. Using a clean sponge or soft cloth, wash the blinds, then rinse with clean water. If you have a lot of blinds to do, make the mixture in and bathtub, and submerge the blinds.


  • Cheap Cleaning Tips for Dusting and Polishing

  • Remove Water or Alcohol Rings on Furniture
    For rings on furniture left by wet glass, use a mixture of equal parts white distilled vinegar and olive oil. Rub with the grain of the wood, then polish.


  • Dust Cloths
    Instead of spending money on commercial dust cloths, you can easily make your own for pennies.

    Cut cheesecloth into 5 squares 20 inches by 20 inches. In a jar with a lid, mix 2 cups hot water and 1/4 cup lemon oil.

    Soak the cheese cloth in the solution and squeeze out excess. Hang cloth to dry.

    Store dried cloths in an air tight container when not using.

    Dust will adhere to these cloths and leave a protective coat on your furniture as you dust. An additional benefit of these cloths is how good your house will smell.

    When cloths get dirty, wash in warm soapy water and rinse throughly. Then dip in mixture and let dry.


  • Make Own Furniture Polish
    Mix together equal amounts of lemon juice and olive oil in a jar with lid. Apply this mixture to wood furniture with a clean lint free cloth.


  • How to Dust Hard to Reach Areas
    Use a paint brush to dust cracks and hard to reach places in telephones, computer key boards, etc.
