Reduce Heating and Air Conditioning Cost

  • Install Programable Thermostat
Replace your old thermostat with a new programable thermostat. Now you can program you furnace to heat your home when you are at home. No longer waste money heating your home when no one is home.

  • Caulk Windows and Doors
If your doors and/or windows are not sealed, you are literally throwing money out. To test for air leaks, light a candle and hold it next to windows and doors. If you see the flame moving, you have leaks. These leaks can easily be fixed by caulking and/or adding weather stripping.

  • Install Attic Fan
Using a attic fan to cool you home will cut down your air conditioning bill.

  • Use Solor Film or Shades
To reduce the summer heat in your home, put solar film or solar shades on the outside of windows. Use honey comb type shades on interior windows to trap the heat before it is absorbed into the room.

  • Use Furnace Fan
Use the furnace fan to circulate air in you home. The furnace fan will circulate the air in your home making it warmer in cool weather and cooler in warm weather.

  • Shade Your Home
Put in shady landscape around your home. Plant trees and use low-water plants.

  • Close Vents
Close the vents in rooms and areas that you don't frequently use. Don't waste money heating or air conditioning rooms that are not used.

  • Reduce Water Bills

  • Install New Showerhead
Replace you old shower head with a new energy saving shower head. You won't believe how much this will save you on your water bill.

  • Insulate Water Heater
Use a water heater blanket year round to save on your water bill. You can purchase these at most home stores. They come in various precut sizes. Make sure you follow manufacturer's instructions when installing, especially for gas heaters.

  • Reduce Electric Bills

  • Replace Traditional Lightbulbs
Use compact fluorescent light bulbs. They are more expensive than other light bulbs, but they will last 10 times longer. Because they are energy efficient, you will save on your electric bill too.

  • Turn Lights Off
Get into the habit of turning lights off when you leave a room.

  • Unplug Electronics
Even when you turn an electronic device off, it still uses energy if it is plugged in. If unplugging electronic devices is not convenient, use a surge protected power strip. Now all you have to do is turn off the power strip and your electronic devices are safe from power surges during storms.

  • Re-set Water Heater Temperature
Re-set you water heater's temperature to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. You will save money and still be able to wash clothes and dishes and bathe without scalding yourself.

  • Use Slow Cooker
Slow cookers use very little energy and are great for busy schedules
