Frugal Activities
Frugal activities is all about ways to be frugal when planning a day of fun.
You can have a frugal fun day with free museum days, free music concerts and more.
There are so many things you can do with friends and family that won't break the budget.
You just have to take advantage of what is out there.
We will continually add more activities, so be sure to check back often!
Fun Frugal Activities
With these activities you can have a full day of fun or just a couple of hours.
You can pick from outdoors or indoor activities. No matter what the weather, there is something to do.
And best of all, its cheap.
Outdoor Activities
- Pack a picnic lunch and go to a local park.
- Take a pair of binocculars and a book on birds (from the library) and watch birds.
- Make a kite and fly it in the field.
- Grab you camera and make a memory book.
- Collect wildflowers to adorn your home or dry for future projects.
- Put up a tent in your backyard.
- Have a night of star gazing.
- Tell ghost stories.
- Make s'mores.
- Rake leaves into a pile and jump in
- Go to a high school football game.
- Attend community sport games.
- Watch a Little Leaque game
- Volunteer to be a coach.
- Look in the phonebook or on the internet to find zoos in your area.
- Call the zoo and ask when they have free admission days.
- Sign up for zoo newsletters that will notify you of special events.
- Volunteer to help out at the zoo.
- Go to your local nursery and attend free seminars.
- Join a local gardening club.
- Go to a botonical garden.
- Call your Chamber of Commerce and ask for a list of free concerts in your area.
- Look in newspapers for local music events.
- During summer months you can find free concerts for almost every weekend.
- Pick Fruits and Vegetables
- Go to apple orchard and pick your own apples.
- Check with local farms and ask if they let people pick strawberries or other produce.
- Go to a pumpkin farm and pick out your own pumpkin.
- Festivals during the summer are plentiful.
Check with your local town or look in newspaper for list of festivals.
- Check out the arts and craft section for ideas..
- Walk around and enjoy the outdoors.
- Get family and or friends together and go caroling.
- Bundle up and check out the lights.
Indoor Activities
- Check out a book.
- Sit in a comfy chair and read newpapers and magazines.
- Check out a movie or music CD.
- Check with your local library for a list of dates and times for special activities and events.
- Go to the library and check out some movies.
- Make a big bowl of popcorn.
- Sit back and enjoy.
- Look in phonebook or at your Chamber of Commerce for a list of museums.
- Call museum and ask when they have free admission days or special promotions and events.
- Go to local village museum. You will be surprised at what you will see.
- Go to local animal shelter and volunteer to work with animals.
- Spend an afternoon at a nursing home talking to residents.
- Help serve and prepare meals at homeless shelters.
- Call local art galleries and ask them for viewing hours. Most are free, but always ask.
- Go to art shows. Find listing of shows in your local paper.
- Go to model homes for ideas on color and decorating.
- Check with local schools for play performances. Dress rehearsals are usually free.
- Call local factories and companies and ask if they give tours.
